A Bit About Mama

So the attempt to write an “about me” section has proved to be quite difficult. Why it’s so easy to write about others rather than yourself perplexes me.

So here it is the debut of the best I can figure of how to explain me.

I’ve lived in the same general 40 mile radius my whole life. Born and raised a small town girl and wouldn’t have it any other way. I grew up on a farm. With that fact I am proud to say I am no stranger, nor do I fear hard work or getting dirty. I will gladly stand up and take on any man that feels they are stronger than I, or any woman, for that exact reason. I wouldn’t say I am a feminist, however I would say I have a feminist attitude especially when it comes to the alpha male with the caveman theory they are still the strongest sex.

I did really well in school, and can’t say I fit into one clique. I was friends with EVERYONE. I called it my eclectic ability to socialize. I still find it present in my life now. I don’t like enemies, however if someone feels they are mine, there in for nothing but kindness from me from now on.

I'm a wife of a Fire/EMS addict. Who has recently dragged me into that lifestyle. Becoming an EMT has been an eye opening experience. It has always amazed me his dedication to this line of volunteerism. (<< can’t believe that’s actually a word.) I can’t call it work only because that isn’t possible to be a paid job in this little area we live in.

My hubby came as a package. When I married him I got twin stepdaughters as well. They are my LIFE. I’ve been blessed by my hubby to be able to be a stay at home mom for them. QueenB and Toughie sure do keep me on my toes, and have a huge thirst for adventure. We are blessed that they are so smart, so active, and so full of love.

We are struggling with the fact that I may not be able to get pregnant. We dearly want a child of our own. Of course nothing will take away the love we have for the girls. Facing this hard fact has been difficult and heart breaking. We will get through it and in fact being in this situation we fully believe is to only make us stronger.

I say that I speak my mind whether you like it or not. I've always been told I posses more knowledge and wisdom than anyone my age should. My Grandmother whom I miss terribly repeatedly told me in my teen years that some day I would realize that having a mind that processed things far beyond my years isn’t a curse, rather a blessing and I should cherish it. I still haven’t figured out how it’s a blessing, but knowing my Grandmother I’m sure I’ll find out soon.

I've chosen to share my thoughts, random theories, some dislikes, and favorites of what ever comes to my mind here for you all to enjoy, disapprove, or perplex you into wondering what on earth is she thinking. I invite you to sit back and take a trip with me into my life, my mind, and the utter chaos and adventure I’m sure will arise.

True Confessions of a Wanna be green thumb.

So here it is my true confessional of the month week day time being.

I wish I had my grandmother’s green thumb. Instead no, I got the thumb of death, or dust, or well absolutely no gardening talent at all. If I was put in charge to grow a garden for us all to survive, then I’m extremely sorry folks but we are SCREWED!

Now just because I don’t have my thumb yet, (I’m staying hopeful) doesn’t mean I don’t try.

Last year I tried, and I think my setup was rather splendid in the front. What was suppose to grow back is and I’m very excited about that. I’ve taken a picture here for you to see what it looks like at this very moment and I hope as spring and summer progress I can show you what more I have accomplished. Plus the important part of what's actually growing back.

garden1

Off to the left is where I will have a gorgeous bird feeder that my Hubby’s grandpa made, that has stepping stones back to it. There are also various other garden statues/items that were put away for winter. My next goal out here is to fill in the empty areas which really only is one, and figure out what to put down to keep the grass out. (any tips would be greatly appreciated) For the most part up front here I have a theme which I’ve been old that a neighbor has named Fire and Ice. Most, if not all, my flowers are red, orange, yellow, and the bush there you can see has red leaves. It’s also a pretty picky bush, but maybe that will be a deterrent to someone trying to get in the garden later on. Now the ice comes from the glass blocks I used, which were free from a friend, and you absolutely can’t beat that.

Next was the mission of something in our back/side yard. I started it but rather lost inspiration halfway through.

garden2

We had originally tilled up a diagonal section in this corner, had placed an arbor that I’m hoping to plant climbing roses up this year. I love roses, and really hope they can bare with me and survive.

 garden3

Our biggest problem is this little thing in the bottom right corner. A bunch of the stuff I planted back here she went and dug up. So far all I see coming back is what I believe are the Iris’s.

 garden4

I originally had went and dug/picked all these rocks out of the rock piles at my parents farm to run along the diagonal edge to mark off the flower bed. However like I said I lost inspiration on the whole project and really all they seem to line right now is the front fence.

Whether the lack of inspiration or energy was the culprit I don’t plan on that being the issue this year. We are going to make a fence with a gate to section off a doggy part of the yard, and a people part of the yard. After that is all set, I hope that my green thumb will magically appear this year, and I’ll get to share it all later.

Off to work in the yard now can’t pass up this 70 degree day. Especially in Northern Michigan where last Thursday we woke up to snow on the ground.

Blog Party 2010!! What a great restart! (again)

So here I find myself once again aimlessly wandering back into this bloggy world to try for a third time. Let’s start again and see if I can keep at it only ‘cuz third times the charm right?? So as I’m meandering around a few of my favorite blogs and begin to see a reoccurring post from yesterday. Now I’ve been wondering where I can find some tips, or tricks, advice or what have you on how it is these blogger ladies (and men) find something to write about everyday. How is it that by chance, or miracle rather, I come across……

blog_party_banner_horizlong

I mean what are the chances!! Now I get to see/meet hundreds, probably over a thousand bloggers all in one place. Has to be a miracle right? So come on over join the party click the banner above, or in the side bar, don’t be shy!! There are some awesome prizes to be won too!!

Now to the PPPAAAARRRTTTTAAAAYYYY!!!

Watch your step as you come in the dogs will surely trip you or at least maul you with kisses.

my muts

Now that you have been officially welcomed to our home, dog slobber and all. My name is Sammi. I’m a small town northern country gal, living in the same Nowhere Ville town I grew up in. I was married on 07/07/07 to a wonderful man on the beautiful sunset shore of Torch Lake. Which is the Somewhere Ville he is from. (It’s only somewhere instead of nowhere because of that tourist trap lake) Now how I convinced him to move to Nowhere Ville with me I may never know. Now I love my hubby but the best part of gaining a best friend in him, was that the hubby came a packaged deal. Not only did I get him but also two for one special, of twin girls.

Easter48 Easter49

I introduce you to the one and only Toughie in pink, and miss QueenB in blue. Now they have adapted to country life the best as you can see they don’t go anywhere, not even egg hunting, without their S**t kicker, I mean rain boots on.

Plus with their daddy being a Fire/EMS addict I think its already rubbing off. I’m not sure who jumps more when the pager goes off daddy or them.

Firekids2

Which now is even worse only because the hubby convinced me to take an EMT class with him. Now in the beginning when he drug me to class kicking and screaming convinced me to take the class with him, I was rather hesitant. However now its only one more test to go and it will be a fight and a race for the first to be out that front door. Plus he knows that I don’t think twice about fighting dirty racing him out the door.

For the most part I am a caffeine, chocolate, crafting, social site addict. However we do love to be outside too, when its not 40 below!! For example just the other day at my sisters house who by the way claims, on most occasions, the other three kids in the previous fire gang picture, we had a great time teaching her hubby a lesson.

Fort4

Don’t bring home pieces to hunting blinds to only sit in the yard. We will build/put them back together only for the kids to use as a fort of course. (notice the boots again) We aren’t afraid to get dirty, filthy, down right grungy for the sake of a good day of fun.

Now when I’m not curbing an addiction, or chasing kids, I also have my own business I work from home called Motivated Mom’s.

motivatedmoms

I love the fact I pick my own schedule, that I completely run my business from home, and have the pleasure of talking to mom’s from all across the USA and Canada. Such a dream job that has been a heaven sent to become my reality, and I’m loving every minute of it.

Now as I said in the beginning I’m trying to get my blog going. I’m working on a fan page on Facebook as well as a separate Twitter account for the blog. I’m hoping to get everything semi straightened out and in order soon. I’d love for you to follow and fan them both, as well as grab my button and show some LOVE!! I’ll definitely return the favor!!

****Now as for the prizes, there are a ton to choose from at the UBP so here are my top three...

** Of course the Grand Prize, who wouldn't want it!! A Toshiba Satellite. **

Then next is the Be My Guest Certificate ($250 value) for a 2 night stay for a family of 4 at any Hilton Garden Inn Courtesy of Bloggin2Noggin.

Then third Id love LOVE a Customn Blog Design for my blog!! To awesome it's provided by StartRankingNow.

Now if by chance those three are taken I would like any of the following in order... US-11, US-95, US-105, USC-13, INTL-14, INTL-11, US-98, USC-35, USC-39.

However if all those are taken I'll gladly have any other blog, giftcard, or girly kid stuff as I have the twin 4 year old girls. Hope you all come visit and party with us too.****

Look forward to meeting you all soon!!! Party on!!!

Kid’s amaze me!! Do your kids know who to call?

I find it so awesome what kids can learn these days. Especially when they are so young. Being in the healthcare field myself, growing up in a family who was, and now that my hubby and I are both active in EMS it has always been teach the kids 911. We have been teaching it to the girls since they were probably three. They love going to the station and seeing the ambulances and fire trucks. So why not teach them why its important to call 911 when someone needs help.

So when you ask my girls what number do you call when someone needs help. They will reply 911. Ask them who comes when you call 911. They will reply fire, ambulance, and the cops. They know all of this and they are only 4. How awesome is that?

So the other day on the news i see this story about a 7 year old boy declared a hero when he not only grabs his sister and locks him and her in the bathroom but calls 911. His parents were being held at gunpoint in their own home. He says his mom taught him everyday what to do. Good for them!!

Here’s the story. If you want to check it out.

Then again a while back a three year old, yes only three, saves his grandma when she was sick by calling 911. He even locked their dog in the back bedroom so it wouldn’t get out, and let the police and paramedics in when they got there.

Here’s that story.

Or how about this bilingual 11 year old who translated for rescuers in a bus crash where most of the injured only spoke Spanish. They said he stayed calm through the whole thing.

Here’s that story.

I’m more than excited that for well over a year when you ask the girls what they want to be the story hasn’t changed.

Toughie wants to be a firefighter, just like daddy, which doesn’t surprise me one bit. She’s always been rough and tough and daddy’s little girl.

firecross

On the other hand Queen B wants to be a cop. In a way not to surprising either since she is such a hellion troublemaker   stickler for breaking the rules. Not a day goes by that she isn’t getting corrected for something. She may be the queen but certainly no princess.

police badge

They even have rain jackets already for their future professions. Which once it’s warm enough there will be pictures of those later, I’ll make sure of it.  All in all I am more than happy about what they have chosen to do and especially if they stick with it. Takes real heart to become a cop, firefighter, EMS personnel, even service members. Who else do you know that willingly puts their lives in danger or on hold to help others when they need it. I certainly know first hand what it’s like being a wife of one, and now becoming one myself. Now if they choose other professions I wouldn’t love or support them any less. Then again they are only 4 so time will tell.

When Hubby's Cook.....

So the other night I got a real treat. The hubby decided to fix dinner. So nice of him. He made one of the few things he can make, spaghetti.

Now my hubby is the stereotypical bachelor type cook. You know the few easy things that they can make that eventually need very little if any at all combustible action to finish. Like mac n’ cheese, scrambled eggs, ramen, and of course you can’t forget the grilled cheese sandwiches. Plus anything they can throw in a microwave or no big hassle in the oven.

So now it’s November and that of course means venison. The hubby’s absolute favorite meal of all I really do believe. He cherishes hunting season so much that it is the only time of year he takes a vacation. Welcome to living in Northern Michigan.

So I come home to him telling me he wants venison steaks for dinner last night. So okay I get it all out get it all started. He decides he is going to offer to help me. HA yeah right!! Flashes from last year fly through my mind.

Coming home to so many cars stopped on the main road in front of my house. I mean main road in the terms of our house is about 20 ft from the curb of a major highway. No one going anywhere all just staring at the house. Fire trucks everywhere, lights flashing, firefighters running all over. People standing and gawking at my house, pure, total, and absolute mass chaos.
Ok OK! So I’m exaggerating it wasn’t that BAD. Nothing like that at all in fact just my imagination.

Last year however he did try to cook some steaks. I did come home to smoke filling my whole kitchen and lots of that horrid burnt smell filling my home. Lasted for days after, just as if the house really did catch on fire.

So of course I’m like “OH NO! I got it dear, we don’t need a repeat.” He just grins.

So I finish cooking we enjoy our meal and today I’m so thankful that my hubby wants to help me. That he will cook things he know he can. That he will offer to help, even though he knows he has no idea how to do it. Plus most of all that we still have a house and the hubby hasn’t decided to try to cook anything new since then. Sometimes I wish he would venture yet I cherish our house/home more. : )

Hope you have a Happy Thanksgiving Tomorrow!!!

New Toys..... or the box....

It amazes me how much stuff we accumulate over the years of our life. Right now I’m trying to sort through stuff to pack away, or get rid of. Daddy has brought me home some boxes to accomplish this mission. Hard part is I have no problem throwing stuff in the boxes, girls are getting good at it too. However Daddy for some reason is a pack rat rather attached to some a lot of his things.

The girls have so much stuff we could supply a small country with toys. Well maybe not that many but it sure seems like it. See the girls have a rather huge extended family, and not many kids their age. When Christmas or their Birthday comes around they get sooo much stuff. Sometimes I think we need a storage shed just for presents after Christmas. That doesn’t include the stuff that the grandparents just buy them or the girls manage to manipulate and con out of them. For some reason it is programmed in the grandparents to never say no to their innocent little grandchildren when they ask for something. But hey who passes up free daycare, so Daddy and I get time alone YAY!!

Anyway the girls open most of their toys after the holidays but we do put some new stuff away. That way when I get the days where “I’m bored”, “What can we do”, “There’s nothing to do” come whining from their mouths I have a plan of attack. The girls go pick out some toys, I try to make it more than we are getting out, to give away or throw away depending on how well “used” they are. Once they are boxed up we go to the new stuff and pick out two or three things.

So it ends up being Christmas all over again to them. Plus the bonus I now have a few hours most times to have no distractions and get stuff done. (ie on the computer, but don’t tell Daddy *wink wink*)

So now yesterday I got to thinking the girls hadn’t pulled their whining in awhile. Don’t get me wrong I was very happy about that. Still we hadn’t been in the “New Stuff” closet in quite some time. The girls had been good so far today so I figured the melt down was soon to occur. I went to find the girls to see if they wanted to get in the closet and this is what I found in their room…

No wonder it had been a good day!!!!

Forget the toys, forget the park, forget everything! Just give us a box big enough to fit in! They spent hours playing in those boxes all day yesterday, and actually today now too. This has been the most peaceful couple days in I can’t remember how long. I guess if the closet runs out of toys, which I’m sure it won’t, all I have to do is get Daddy to bring home some more boxes.

I’ve heard them driving bus, fire trucks (apparently sirens came on the box and were loud!). They have made them an animal shelter complete with every possible stuffed animal they could shove in, glad they have somewhere to be now. Today now the boxes are back to being the fire truck and ambulance and are on their way to go help Daddy. (Daddy is at a live burn training which we are going to later)

So now I guess I go try to pry them away from their fire trucks so we can go see Daddy and his. I’m pretty sure when I mention Daddy and the fire guys I’m the one going to have trouble catching up to get them ready.

Let the excitement begin, “OOOHHHH Girls!!!!”

The Beginning

So I figured it would only be appropriate to make my first post a background of me and what I intend to write for your enjoyment and or for your enlightenment.

I’ve grown up and now live in the same small town in Northern Nowhereville Michigan. One of them where everyone knows you, your family, what your doing, and where you’ve been types of towns. All in all it makes it a great and not so great place to live. Don’t get me wrong I love the small town feel. The jump when someone needs help aspect of the community. When someone’s in need there are always people there. The support of a so to speak extra large family. I was a farm raised girl who wouldn’t baulk at hard work or rough housing with the boys. I grew up with only two sister’s but seemed to have gathered several brothers along the way. For some reason they thought I needed protections when really they were the ones needing it from me.

So now I have married, and convinced my hubby to move here with me. We have twin daughters who keep this life of mine at its peak of craziness. All in all what else is the life of a wife and mommy right? My hubby is a Fire/EMS addict so at any given moment of the day our plans/lives can be totally changed and or rearranged if that pager happens to go off. Which in my eyes is a blessing and an honor in some aspects. It takes a strong person to be able to drop everything they are doing, and in some situations risk their life, to come and help you in your time of need.

So I am a SAHM and love every minute of this chaotic life. I’m a social site addict, caffeine dependent, don’t cross me or you will pay type of woman. I have always used some form of journaling as a so to speak therapy and am now choosing to share with you my every thought, theory, rant, rave, or anything else I feel like writing. I can’t guarantee that you will agree with the way my mind works or thinks, however I do believe you will find enjoyment out of what I write. So here we go off on this glorious adventure!
